Ideas for a Rainy Day

Ideas for a Rainy Day

March 29, 2018

This time of year, the weather in Leavenworth is anything but predictable. While we are saying goodbye to the snow, it is not unusual to have big, wet snow flakes in the morning, followed by warmth from the afternoon sun.  It is also the time of year when we can get “spring showers.”

Never fear! We have a list of Rainy Day ideas that will make your getaway a one-of-a-kind time to remember.

If you wish to leave the inn for a few hours but prefer staying indoors, here are some ideas for you:

Bowling – Head on over to Brian’s Bulldog Pizza & Bowling in Cashmere. They have great pizza, and that frizzy hair you now have will look great in a ponytail with your bowling shoes!

Shopping Scavenger Hunt – Challenge each other with a list of three or four items to buy for the other. Make it funky and fun (there are plenty of tasty treats and silly knick-knacks in Leavenworth). Stumped for ideas? Start with the obvious; how about a rain slicker, umbrella, and a pair of boots for some outdoor fun?!

Check-out the Local Booze Scene – You will find an abundance of tasting rooms, breweries, and distilleries in Leavenworth and around the Icicle Valley. Most have daily tastings and tours can often be arranged on short notice. Finish your day with a great dinner and a hot libation before bed.

Play Grown-up Games – Head on over to Ducks and Drakes Sports Bar and Smokehouse. They have a 120” big-screen TV, pool tables, dart boards, shuffleboard, and even a juke box! They offer free pool and darts, Monday through Thursday.

Get Cultured – Check out one of the inspiring performance at the Icicle Creek Center for the Arts. The 2018 season line-up can be found here.

Are you willing to get wet?  Here are a few ideas for you!

Take a Walk Along the River – While the rain may give most people pause, you are not most people!  Take a walk along the Riverfront Park trail. This trail can be rather crowded on a sunny day but if you are willing to brave the rain, you will have the place to yourselves.

Make a Splash – Now is the time to put those new rain boots you just purchased to good use!

Find Your Inner Photographer – Everyone takes pictures on a sunny day but some of the most beautiful photos can come from the moodiness of a “gray” setting. This can make for a fun competition as well! Keep the photos to yourself and then share them over a warm drink in the Bavarian Bistro Bar…ask for our friend, Asia.

For those who prefer to weather the storm:

One-day Book Club – Select a book from our library, snuggle up next to the fire, and read! You can select one book and take turns, reading aloud to one another (think books on tape), or you can each pick a title and share at the end of the day. We have a selection of short stories if you’re not a fast reader.

Board Games – Choose one of the board games from the Great Room…and then put your own special twist on it.

Bubble Bath for Two – Just because you are not willing to go outside and get wet doesn’t mean you have to stay dry inside and our spa tubs give you the perfect reason. Ask us for some additional bath grains and candles.

Movie Magic – Select one, two or even three of the movies from our large selection of titles. Call the front desk and ask for our “Movie Night Basket” and then settle in.

Make a Little Romance …need we say more?

Any time of year is a good time at Run of the River! Use some of our rainy day ideas here, or ask us at the front desk during your stay! Don't let a little rain rain on your parade!
