Hundreds of miles of hiking trails dip and climb through the forests that surround the Leavenworth area. Day hikers can choose an easy, peaceful hike or a scramble up steep terrain. Some hikes meander along quiet streams, while others lead to alpine lakes and panoramic views.

Run of the River is pleased to provide  for our guests with brochures and maps that include difficulty levels, as well as our hike recommendations for your skill level and interests.   


The Central Washington Cascades is one of the top biking destinations in the state. Whether you are a casual rider or all-in, Leavenworth and the surrounding area offer miles of roads and single-track trails for all skill levels. Bring your own ride or borrow one of ours! We’ll supply the maps!

Fly Fishing

Washington boasts some of the best fishing found in the country, and the Central Cascades, with its diverse and distinctive geography offers a unique outdoor experience. 

Whether you are a seasoned angler or just getting your feet wet, opportunities to catch steelhead, salmon, trout, perch and whitefish, are all within a short distance of the Inn. Equipment, classes and outings for all levels and interests are available. 

Rafting and Tubing

On a hot summer day, there is no better way to beat the heat than on one of the area’s scenic rivers.  Water enthusiasts can choose from a variety of options depending on the season and water levels.   


Looking for a hoot  &  hollering good time with some of the best views in Washington state? Then let the zipping begin!  
You shout in jubilation as you swoop your way from ridge to ridge.  You’ll reach heights of up to 190' high over the valley while soaring on up to nine adrenaline-pumping lines and crossing two suspension bridges.   

Rock Climbing

Situated in the rain shadow of the Cascade Range, Leavenworth is Washington State’s premier rock-climbing destination and is ideal for rock guiding and instruction. Leavenworth's rock climbing neatly divides into 3 main areas: Icicle Creek Canyon, Tumwater Canyon, and the Alpine Lakes Wilderness. In addition to these three cragging areas, Leavenworth has developed into one of the best bouldering areas on the West Coast.  

The Northwest Mountain School offers daily rock-climbing lessons and guided rock climbs near Leavenworth. Due to a drier east side location the season can start in early March, and most years will run into early November. Trip offerings range from half-day climbs to multi-day adventures in the mountains around Leavenworth.
